CLASSIC MODERNISM
The artists of classic modernism are represented by high-profile names such as Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele. From Klimt there are three nude studies for the Beethoven Frieze (€ 60,000 – 120,000 each) and from Egon Schiele "reclining female nude" (€ 80,000 – 200,000). Then there is an oil painting by Georges Braque "Nature morte aux Richardies d'Afrique" on offer (€ 150,000 – 250,000). Don't miss the male nude (Rudolf Hradil) by Anton Kolig (€ 70,000 – 120,000), Otto Rudolf Schatz with his innovative "Im Prater, um das Lusthaus" (€ 150,000 – 250,000) and Erwin Lang with a portrait, highly controversial at the time, of his wife Grete Wiesenthal with son and sister (€ 250,000 - 500,000). An evocative landscape by Carl Moll "Forest track near Kreuzberg an der Rax" (€ 50,000 – 100,000) will also go under the hammer.
CONTEMPORARY ART
Among the contemporaries there are a number of works on offer in the style of "Fantastic Realism" in Belvedere with work by Arik Brauer ("Die große Welle", € 35,000 – 50,000), Rudolf Hausner ("Glückliche Landschaft", € 50,000 – 100,000), Ernst Fuchs ("Paradiso", € 100,000 – 200,000) and Anton Lehmden with impressions of "Istanbul" (€ 15,000 – 25,000).
Special interest is expected in a casting of the famous relief by Fritz Wotruba, (the original is located in Matzleinsdorfer Platz, Vienna) (€ 70,000 – 140,000), splatter and relic paintings by Hermann Nitsch and "Wie eine Landschaft" by Max Weiler (€ 70,000 – 120,000).
JUGENDSTIL
In the Jugendstil sector, buyers can look forward to an extremely elegant mantel clock, designed by Adolf Loos (€ 75,000 – 120,000). From Dagobert Peche there are two mirrors, manufactured around 1922 by Max Welz for the Wiener Werkstätte (€ 20,000 – 50,000). A number of pieces of furniture and accessories by Josef Hoffmann will also be present at the auction. Notably, a silver basket with an ivory handle (€40,000 – 80,000), designed by Hoffmann in 1905 for the Wiener Werkstätte.
