PRESS RELEASE
MASTERPIECES 77th art auction
One year ago our anniversary auction was so successful that we have decided to organize a follow-up auction. From now on we will annually host an additional auction at which only a few selected objects of very high quality are auctioned - the best of all sections that the market has currently on offer.
THE 2nd OF MARCH im Kinsky
Thus we start the auction year 2010 on the 2nd of March at 6 p.m. with an
exquisite selection of 148 pieces of art.
Masters such as Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, Rudolf von Alt; Pierre-
Auguste Renoir, Leo Putz and Maria Lassnig are only a few of the
represented artists, whose oeuvres are offered under the title “masterpieces” on this day. The total of the estimated prices lies between 4.7 to 8.4 Million
Euros.
19th CENTURY PAINTINGS
The family portrait of baron Odkolek and his wife and sons, painted by Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller in 1826, is among the first-class paintings of the 19th century with an estimated price of
€ 150.000 - 300.000. Waldmüller
had already been a sought after portraitist at the time, even before he became
the curator of the picture gallery and professor at the academy. The 19th
century section also shines with a
panoramic view of Klagenfurt by Marcus
Pernhart (€100.000 - 200.000) and two
large-sized main oeuvres by Edward
Theodore Compton
(€ 50.000 - 100.000
each) that show Tyrolian landscapes.
ANTIQUES
The section of antiques opens with a baroque rifle by the master Franz
Weier, who mainly worked for the Austrian
imperial family in the first quarter of the 18th
century. The styling of the weapon (€ 15.000 -
25.000) suggests the provenience of a bohemian
aristocrat and corresponds with the arms in the
armoury of the Kunsthistorisches Museum. The large
Habans’ screw cap bottle (€ 15.000 - 30.000), dated
1655, will also find numerous enthusiasts among
the collectors.
CLASSIC MODERNISM
Among the classic modernism two
impressionist paintings by Pierre-Auguste
Renoir (Clairtière,
€ 150.000 - 250.000 and
Maisonette renoncules et fleurs diverse,
€ 80.000 - 150.000) as well as two sensual
nudes by the
befriended artists
Leo Putz (€ 100.000 -
200.000) and Edward
Cucuel
(€ 70.000 - 120.000) compete for the favour
of the bidders. Not to be forgotten is the “auf dem
Rücken liegender Akt” by Gustav Klimt, made with red
felt pen 1905/06 (€ 150.000 - 250.000). Their
attention is certainly to be shared with oeuvres by Carl
Moll, Anton Faistauer, Oskar Kokoschka, Herbert
Boeckl and others.
JUGENDSTIL
The section Jugendstil shines with elected, even
award-winning examples of Lötz Manufacture, with
singular Hagenauer-objects and even with Wiener
Werkstätte: Josef Hoffmann’s ornamental box from
the year 1904 (for € 40.000 - 80.000) needs to be
highlighted here as well as a silver service from
1918 with the same evaluation. The show might
only be stolen by a Tiffany “Lily” lamp
(€ 20.000 -
40.000).
CONTEMPORARY ART
The largest section in terms of quantity, the one of
contemporary art, concludes the opening auction of
the new year with 51 oeuvres: From Brandl to Prantl,
from Rainer to Lassnig, from Weiler to Wurm - for
months the best that Austria’s artists had produced
in the second half of the last century was collected
here. For instance Vertikalgestaltung (€ 100.000 -
200.000) made in 1951 by Arnulf Rainer can be
auctioned and also “das Bacchanal” by Maria Lassnig from 1986 (€ 100.000 - 180.000). Josef Mikl is
represented with a breathtaking three by two metre sized “Büste vor Rot” which has been estimated to € 120.000 -
200.000. Farblinienkomposition Rosa (€ 50.000 - 100.000) by Friedensreich
Hundertwasser is shown, as is Franz Ringel’s early oeuvre “Brief an meine
Freunde in Wien” (€ 100.000 - 150.000).
