PRESS RELEASE

MASTERPIECES 77th art auction

Im Kinsky Art Auctions started the auction year 2010 with a selection of only 147 pieces of art, which underlay strict criteria concerning quality. This was honoured by the bidders with an excellent auction sale. With an extremely good sales rate of over 70 percent 5.9 Million Euros were turned over.

Sensational prices were especially achieved for the classic modernism and Jugendstil.
Alfred Kubin: Seltsame FahrtAlfred Kubin’s “Seltsame Fahrt” was auctioned far beyond the charge for 73.000 Euros (purchase price 97.163). A drawing by Gustav Klimt was bought for 170.000 Euros (210.500). A large-sized painting by Otto Rudolf Schatz fetched 140.000 Euros (175.000) and a nude by Leo Putz was even bid up to 145.000 Euros (181.250).
Two small pictures by Renoir were auctioned for 190.000 Euros (233.500) and 100.000 Euros (125.000).

Oskar KokoschkaThe performance of two portraits by Oskar Kokoschka and Herbert Boeckl was sensational: Kokoschka succeeded far beyond the estimated price with 130.000 Euros (162.500), Boeckl even achieved 155.000 Euros (187.250). Anton Kolig’s “Stehender Mann” brought in 100.000 Euros (125.000), Rudolf Wacker’s “Fischerhütten” 70.000 Euros (96.250) and Edward Cucuel’s „Träumerei“ found a new owner for 85.000 Euros (117.895).

Josef Mikl: Große BüsteAlso among the contemporaries a couple of record prices were achieved: Josef Mikl’s “Große Büste” was sold for 130.000 Euros (162.500), Franz Ringel attained his record with his “Brief an meine Freunde” with 100.000 Euros (126.475), Maria Lassnig once more celebrated a splendid success, her “Bacchanal” fetched € 150.000 (189.455).
The hammer price for Arnulf Rainer’s early oeuvre (1951) of 170.000 Euros (212.998) indeed represents a new auction record and also Helmut Leherb has never been bid higher than up to 81.000 Euros (101.250).

Josef Hoffmann Among the Jugendstil an ornamental box by Josef Hoffmann knocked all estimated prognoses on the head: 120.000 Euros (145.200) are a great result. The most expensive antique was a baroque rifle, which was auctioned for 35.000 Euros (43.750).

The great success of the pieces of art was long celebrated. Not even the word “crisis” has been used in the last days.
